Custom Flatware: A Guide to Private Label Cutlery Programs

Start With the Handle Design

Custom flatware programs usually begin with either a stock pattern that gets branded, or a fully custom handle design. Stock patterns with engraving are faster and lower cost; fully custom handles require mold or tooling development. Decide early whether the budget and timeline support new tooling or whether a branded stock pattern is the better path.

Choose the Branding Method

Logo application options include laser engraving, mechanical engraving and stamping. Laser engraving offers fine detail and consistency on finished pieces; stamping is applied during forming. Confirm the logo position, orientation and size on a physical sample, and verify the mark survives the intended wash process before approving production.

Specify Custom Packaging

Private label programs are judged as much on the pack as the piece. Choose from retail color boxes, trays, presentation boxes, sleeves or bulk packs depending on the sales channel, and define the artwork content, barcode location and country-of-origin marking before the dieline is final.

From Concept to Production

  1. Define the piece list, handle design and target price position.
  2. Approve a reference sample, then a development sample.
  3. Confirm logo method, placement and packaging artwork.
  4. Approve and seal the final sample as the production reference.
  5. Confirm inspection criteria and packaging checks, then release production.

FAQ

What is the minimum order for custom flatware?

MOQ depends on the pattern, steel grade, finish, logo process and packaging. Branding a stock pattern normally carries a lower MOQ than a fully custom handle.

Can I use my own logo on existing patterns?

Yes, most stock patterns can be laser or mechanically engraved. Confirm the mark position and durability on a sample.

How long does a custom flatware program take?

Timing includes tooling, sampling, artwork approval and production. The full schedule should be quoted separately from production time.
